The process of building the Spiritual Arch described in the first 164 pages of the Big Book is depicted in this 16 page recovery pamphlet. Many elements of the program are covered in a brief condensed “Recovery Manual” suitable as a quick reference guide for newcomers and recovery veterans alike.
An Appendix titled ” Recovery Yoke” provides Biblical scriptural references to a vast number of recovery related topics including the steps, slogans and commonly used AA phrases and concepts. The Recovery Yoke Appendix distills key Biblical scriptures that are the basis of the recovery program, making the Word of God easily available to cross reference with AA literature as a natural extension of the statement ”God will constantly disclose more to you and to us.” BB p164
How It Works begins with the statement “Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.” The “our” in that statement is the first 100 members of AA, and scripturally based prayer and meditation were a key part of the “path” that they followed at the inception of the fellowship. ArchBuilders and the Recovery Yoke are a resource to help people thoroughly follow the path of the founders and authors of the recovery movement so that today’s fellowship may experience only rare failures as was the case in the early days of the program.
